Pinterest is the perfect place for ideas! I've always loved how you can search Pinterest for ideas and find visual as well as written instructions or tutorials. We have all seen those "Pinterest fails" but for the most part it is my favorite knowledge and crowd sourcing platform. I have more than 32 boards and was excited to created an EME641 vision board. The pins on my vision board are ideas for creating a high tech and creative career center library. Being a career counselor, I have visited a lot of career center facilities and many vary in size, tech resources, and set-up. I'd love to create a space that is welcoming and helps students feel at ease which getting their creatives juices flowing. A few years ago we surveyed students and they felt like our career center where I work was "stuffy" and for "business students only". Keep in mind that we already have an amazing multi-million dollar facility at Florida State -- it's 3 floors with a library, computer lab, 30+ interview rooms, counseling rooms, employer lounge, etc. Regardless, some students don't "relate" to the space and enhanced technologies would be really nice. We tried installing an air drop printer a few years ago (students need to print their resume upon arrival) and it was a huge deal breaker because of an ITS firewall. ARGH!
My vision board includes comfortable seating which would all have charging stations built into the furniture, major and occupational books that include QR codes to the digital version, virtual reality stations to "try on" jobs, practice interviews/elevator pitches/networking with employers, and plenty of computers for working on job application documents, etc. I would also paint inspirational quotes on the walls and include a career & coffee station in the library. Another wish list item would be a digital signage board where students could touch the screen to find all sorts of career information, map to their career liaison on campus, and much more. I actually wrote a proposal for one of these puppies a few years ago (they are quite expensive!) and it was not accepted but this is my Pinterest vision board so I get to include anything I want 😊.
