#WorldBeeDay

Guess what #eme6414 friends?  May 20 is World Bee Day!

In honor of the day, I decided to move out of my comfort zone...that's right, I suited up and logged into Twitter 😆.  It's not that I have anything against Twitter it's just not usually my preferred platform.  For me it feels like this strange space between Facebook and Instagram.  But nonetheless, I did it for the bees and also tweeted about it at @elkennelly 👍

What did I find out?

  • Hashtags work the same in Twitter world as all of the other spots
  • I couldn't figure out how to make a story 😕
  • I'm not sure why I would bookmark Tweets but there must be a reason!
  • Lists seem like a way to follow interest areas but I wasn't too sure how they are created.  Are those like groups in Facebook?
  • My feed is full of tweets from people or businesses I don't really know
  • I am seeing the same posts from the people I do follow on other places like Instagram or Facebook!

Perhaps when it comes to Twitter, I am simply a user and I would be okay buzzing on a few times to smell the flowers then going back to my comfortable hive of Instagram where I like to mix the user + producer roles.  Nonetheless, I did find some cool #bee posts on Twitter today and hope you will all use these hashtags to discover content too #savesthebees #WorldBeeDay #Pollinators #beeplants

Bees R' Funny produced an informative video about the history of importance of World Bee Day.  Enjoy!

  1. I love your Twitter thoughts and questions! Same as you, I don't particularly care about Twitter and look forward to figuring some things that may lead me to liking it more.

  2. Hi Emily, I'm a new Twitter user as well and, just like you, discovering new things as I go along. I once heard someone describe the difference between Facebook and Twitter as "Facebook is full of people I know and don't like, and Twitter is full of people I don't know and love, " haha. I have to admit Twitter does have more variety and people talking about interesting things! I'm still working on how to create a story as well, good luck!

    1. Yay! I also planted some flowers for pollinator friends. Pinterest has some really nice lists of flowers and herbs that pollinators like.

  4. Hi Emily! I absolutely loved learning about this— thank you so much for sharing! To me, the whole hashtag thing is the coolest networking aspect of Twitter/Instagram. I use it to keep up with birding locations and sitings, or to seek out new printmakers to follow from my art account. I feel like they (hashtags) for overused in the beginning so people think it’s just for #cute little #afterthoughts after they post a #caption, but they’re really meant to do just what you explained— connect us to the things we love or want to know more about! Thanks for sharing!
